Agriculture is an integral part of Paraguay's economy, accounting for ¼ of the GNP, 40% of employment, and half of the registered exports. Many of the country´s rural poor depend on agriculture for their livelihood. ACDI/VOCA's work in Paraguay began in 2002 with the implemention of the Cooperative Development Program (CDP) which strengthens agribusinesses, benefits the larger economy, and targets many of Paraguay´s poorest communities.
