2006

In October 2006 ACDI/VOCA initiated implementation of the Special Development Activities Fund (SDAF) program, a three-year, USAID/Bolivia-funded activity through which ACDI/VOCA, in coordination with the U.S. Embassy and USAID/Bolivia, implements small, immediate-impact projects responding to expressed needs of beneficiary groups throughout Bolivia.

2005

The Integrated Community Development Fund (ICDF) is launched in Bolivia with funding from USAID.The project supports the Government of Bolivia (GOB) and USAID/Bolivia’s efforts to eliminate ilicit and excess coca in the Yungas and Chapare regions.

2004

ACDI/VOCA initiates the Change Strategies component of the Cooperative Development Program (CDP) in Bolivia.

2001-2005

The Yungas Community Alternative Development Fund (YCADF) project began in 2001 and is being carried out under the auspices of USAID/Bolivia’s Yungas Development Initiative (YDI).

2001-2005

ACDI/VOCA implements onion production and marketing projects under auspices of the Fundacion para el Desarrollo Tecnologico Agropecuario de los Valles (FDTA-Valles) and the USAID-funded Market Access and Poverty Alleviation (MAPA) activity.

2001-2002

ACDI/VOCA began supporting the Government of Bolivia (GOB) and USAID/Bolivia’s efforts to eliminate ilicit and excess coca in the Yungas through its North Yungas Integrated Rural Development project. At this time, ACDI/VOCA opened a permanent office in La Paz for Yungas Development Initiative activities.

2000-2001

ACDI/VOCA implemented the USAID-funded Programa de Calidad Ambiental-Environmental Quality Program- in the municipalities of Sucre and Tarija.

1996-2000

Based on experience gained and relationships established over the years, ACDI/VOCA implemented the volunteer technical assistance program funded jointly by PL-480 and USAID’s Worldwide Farmer to Farmer program.

1997

Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance (VOCA) and Agricultural Cooperative Development International (ACDI) join forces worldwide to capitalize on the diverse scope of each and enhance the efforts of both.

1993-1996

VOCA received local funding from the Executive Secretariat of PL-480 (Bolivian government) for the volunteer technical assistance program.

1991-1996

Through the USAID-funded Managed Rural Capital Resources Activity, ACDI helped form Agrocapital, a non-profit rural lending foundation.

1991

VOCA-Bolivia opened its permanent national office in Santa Cruz, and initiated a collaborative program with the Proyecto de Organizaciones Agrícolas Privadas, which supported the development of private agriculture and agribusiness throughout Bolivia.

Since 1986

The Chambers of Agriculture, producers’ associations and agribusinesses in Bolivia have benefited greatly from the assistance of volunteers provided through the USAID-funded Farmer to Farmer program.

1982-86

Thorough Alternative Development in Chapare, ACDI helped the Federation of Savings and Loans Cooperatives to organize and develop farmer groups and associations, while assisting the Banco de Cochabamba to expand lending to these groups.

1979-83

Through Improved Lending to Small Farmers, ACDI helped a large multipurpose cooperative expand its loans to small farmers and become a viable credit program, quadrupling the loan portfolio and reducing loan delinquency to less than 5%.

1978-81

Through the project Developing Agricultural Cooperatives, ACDI organized four separate integral cooperatives into a more effective single cooperative institution.

Since 1972

VOCA experts helped to build viable cooperatives of all types - including the electric and telephone cooperatives in Santa Cruz (CRE and COTAS) – through the USAID-funded Cooperative Development Program.

1972

VOCA implements first volunteer technical assistance assignment (Mrs. Laurie Lehtin COBOCE) in Bolivia.

The Yungas Community Alternative Development Fund and the Integrated Community Development Fund are funded by a grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by ACDI/VOCA Bolivia. The projects described here are part of a bi-national initiative to improve the standard of living and increase the productive potential of those residing in the North Yungas, South Yungas, and Caranavi provinces in the Department of La Paz, Bolivia and in the Chapare in the Tropics of Cochabamba for the second fund.This activity is part of a greater effort aimed at containing and eliminating illicit and excess coca production.
