Community Project Name Description
Tiraque (Shinahota) Repairs to the '4 de Abril' School On September 23, 2005, Shinahota suffered a damaging hurricane leaving many homes and public structures damaged or completely destroyed. The most damaging affects were felt by five schools in the area and Shinahota officials turned to ACDI/VOCA for assistance with the repair of these schools in order to return their students safely back to attending classes. In “4 de Abril,” this project reconstructed two classrooms (140 m2 each). The project was funded by a 20% counterpart from Shinahota.
Tiraque (Shinahota) Repairs to the “Ibuelo” School This project, also in response to the storm described above, consisted of the reconstruction of four classrooms and two bathrooms that were badly damaged. The classrooms are 140 m2 each and the bathrooms were 300 m2 total. Due to these repairs, the students can safely return to classes.
Tiraque (Shinahota) Repairs to the San Isidro school Also as result of damages from the windstorm described above, a project was requested to repair four classrooms in San Isidro so the students could return to classes. 
Tiraque (Shinahota) Repairs to the Germán Busch School “A” This project involved the reconstruction of the roof of the German Busch School “A” multi-purpose sports field. The roof area is 890 m2 and covers the entire field and an additional area for bystanders. This project was funded by a 20% counterpart from Shinahota.
Tiraque (Shinahota) Repairs to the Germán Busch School “B” Reconstruction of the roof of the German Busch School “B” multi-purpose sports field, which had been completely destroyed by windstorm.
Caranavi Bus Accident/Rescue Activities (Municipality) In January a bus carrying 39 people careened off a dangerous section of the Caranavi – Coroico road in the Yungas, plunging into the Rio Coroico 50 meters below. The municipal authorities turned to ACDI/VOCA for assistance. A pair of ACDI/VOCA drivers, Francisco Lopez and Wildo Paco helped local rescue crews carry out the grim and demanding task of recovering bodies. ACDI/VOCA also provided technical and logistical support in the form of equipment, transportation, and communications. In addition, ACDI/VOCA provided food and shelter for the families of victims, many of whom had rushed to the site of the accident with minimal provisions.
Caranavi Bus Accident/Rescue Activities (FEJUVE) The local Federation of Neighborhood Associations (FEJUVE in Spanish) also turned to ACDI/VOCA for assistance with the bus accident (detailed above).
Tiraque (Shinahota) Restoration of bridge supports Major flooding in the Tropics of Cochabamba damaged the Mendez Bridge in Shinahota, which connects 23 communities and a host of major producers and exporters of bananas with critical markets and other commerce. In order to restore access to the communities and the banana plantations, ACDI/VOCA repaired supports of the bridge.
The Integrated Community Development Fund is funded by a grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by ACDI/VOCA Bolivia. The project described here is part of a bi-national initiative to improve the standard of living and increase the productive potential of those residing in the North Yungas, South Yungas, and Caranavi provinces in the Department of La Paz, Bolivia and in the Chapare in the Tropics of Cochabamba.This activity is part of a greater effort aimed at containing and eliminating illicit and excess coca production.
