Honey Production

(Link to Honey Production Success Story)

HoneyHoney production assistance was provided in the provinces of Caranavi, North Yungas and South Yungas. Targeted beekeeper communities benefited from technical assistance, training, and equipment provided under the YCADF. Assistance reached 489 beekeepers belonging to 13 different associations and cooperatives. Specific goals were set for each association or cooperative, all intended to strengthen, improve and encourage honey production. Some equipment such as hives, centrifuges, smokers, packaging materials, and protective clothing were provided.

Honey Honey

Support for the production of ecological honey and its derivatives in the provinces of Caranavi and Alto Beni helped beekeepers increase production and improve the quality of their product. Training, technical assistance and institutional strengthening of beekeeping cooperatives was accomplished through a series of workshops and site visits. A very important part of this assistance was provided by the volunteer Joe Rowland, expert beekeeper, who shapred new beekeeping techniques and tecnologies.

The Yungas Community Alternative Development Fund is funded by a grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by ACDI/VOCA Bolivia. The project described here is part of a bi-national initiative to improve the standard of living and increase the productive potential of those residing in the North Yungas, South Yungas, and Caranavi provinces in the Department of La Paz, Bolivia. This activity is part of a greater effort aimed at containing and eliminating illicit and excess coca production
