Bus Terminal in Coroico

Bus

The construction of a bus terminal in Coroico is a critical component for tourism development. Coroico was recently recognized as the first official tourist municipality in Bolivia, reflecting an integrated intervention by MAPA and the YCADF for expanding tourism in the Yungas.

The ground floor of the terminal is designed for the efficient flow of buses, with the capacity of handling up to 10 buses at any time. Checkpoints, toll booths and watchman’s quarters are included on the ground level. The mezzanine offers offices assigned to transportation service enterprises, and includes six booths for customer service and storage areas. At the rear of the building, there is an open terrace to load items directly onto buses parked on the ground floor. Restrooms, dressing rooms and waiting areas are also on this level. The second floor houses the administrative offices. There is also space assigned to national and international phone service, storage, tourist information, small stores, post office and automated banking services. A food court for 80 persons is located on the third floor, together with storage and restroom facilities.

The Yungas Community Alternative Development Fund is funded by a grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by ACDI/VOCA Bolivia. The project described here is part of a bi-national initiative to improve the standard of living and increase the productive potential of those residing in the North Yungas, South Yungas, and Caranavi provinces in the Department of La Paz, Bolivia. This activity is part of a greater effort aimed at containing and eliminating illicit and excess coca production
