Since ACDI/VOCA first began work in Bolivia in 1972, we have seen outstanding success in the realm of development. Here, we would like to share with you some sample success stories from our USAID-funded, four-year, YCADF project. The stories are divided by our four areas of expertise. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

- Sanitation Facilities

- Letrines in Yungas
- Household Latrines Save Lives in the Yungas.Combined with the construction of potable-water projects, UHFs form the backbone of ACDI/VOCA's efforts to reduce incidence of illness among rural populations in the Yungas.
- Agua Dulce School
- Agua Dulce is a town of 37 families in the Palos Blancos municipality of the department of La Paz, Bolivia. Today in the town of Agua Dulce, children of all ages play sports on the athletic court, the halls of the school ring with the sounds of students learning and teachers live comfortably a short walk away.
- Carmen Pampa University
- Since it was founded in 1993, the University of Carmen Pampa (UAC-CP) has been a catalyst for change in the Yungas region, providing the opportunity for a quality education to residents of six provinces in the department of La Paz, who previously had faced too many barriers to continue into higher education.
- Community Clean Up
- As part of a YCADF environmental initiative,the ‘Clean-Up’ campaign, sought to educate the population about the importance of the correct disposal of garbage and how correctly managing waste will contribute to maintaining health and preserving the surrounding environment.
AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT
- Achiote Story
- Achiote Paints the Yungas Red: In the Heart of the Yungas, the Achiote Plant is an Ecologically-safe Alternative to Synthetically-produced Red Dye. Read more about the organic production of the achiote seed and ACDI/VOCA's support of this licit crop.

- Agroforestry Systems
- With so much potential to improve the quality of life for residents of the Yungas, both immediately and over the long-term, agroforestry will feature on the ACDI/VOCA agenda for many years to come.

The Yungas Community Alternative
Development Fund is funded by a grant from the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) and managed by ACDI/VOCA Bolivia. The project
described here is part of a bi-national initiative to improve the
standard of living and increase the productive potential of those
residing in the North Yungas, South Yungas, and Caranavi provinces
in the Department of La Paz, Bolivia. This activity is part of a
greater effort aimed at containing and eliminating illicit and excess
coca production
